Guitar shops worth the trip in Hilo

Hilo's rainy old downtown has kept a small but stubborn music scene alive, and after the Music Exchange shuttered its Big Island stores the town's dedicated guitar shop became the one worth planning around.

Open since 2015, this owner-run shop stocks guitars, basses, and amplifiers from Gretsch, Takamine, Tagima, Marshall, and Randall plus a rotating consignment wall, and it handles repairs and lessons. It is the Big Island’s standing bricks-and-mortar guitar store, the kind of local counter that survived while chain outposts came and went. Weekday and Saturday hours keep it accessible for anyone passing through east Hawaii.
