Guitar shops worth the trip in Miami

Craig and Patti Brody have run this since 1989 out of an 11,000-square-foot warehouse that doubles as a guitar-and-car museum. The catch is scheduling: walk-ins are Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings only, and everything outside that window is by appointment. Build the Fort Lauderdale leg of the trip around those three mornings rather than hoping to fit it in.

Seven display rooms, one of them a dedicated high-end acoustic space holding instruments that date to the 1800s alongside guitars built from the last available Brazilian rosewood. Miami New Times named it the city’s best musical instrument store in 2014. The address is an industrial bay in Hialeah rather than a storefront, so watch for the bay number on the way in.

Appointment-only here is a stated service model, not a sign of a business quietly winding down. What booking buys is a curated boutique run across more than twenty premium brands, with stock ranging from under $1,000 to roughly $65,000. Anyone hoping to browse anonymously will find it uncomfortable; anyone who wants an undivided hour will not.

Vintage guitars share the floor with restored cars and motorcycles here, and there is a full café attached — a Wynwood showroom that has behaved more like a private collection than a retail store since Bill Goldstein opened it in 2016. Walk-ins during posted hours, no appointment required. A Nashville location is in development, but Miami is the original and the flagship.

A working luthier shop first and a retail floor second, turning out custom builds under its own name while handling consignment and repair across a broad range of instruments. The bench work is the reason to go, not the wall. Sundays are by appointment.

Martin, Collings, Pre-War Guitars, Eastman, Iris and Beard under one roof make this the only dedicated Americana shop in a market that otherwise skews hard toward electrics. That specialization is the entire argument for the detour. Hours could not be verified — the shop’s site failed to load during research — so call before committing to the drive.

An independent authorized dealer on Biscayne Boulevard whose stock skews new rather than vintage, which makes it a convenience stop rather than a reason to cross the county. Verification rests on Yelp alone; the shop’s own site could not be reached. Ten minutes well spent if the route already runs through North Miami Beach, and no great loss otherwise.
